Bye, Bye Bacon?

If you haven't heard by now, bacon may be headed for an "unavoidable" shortage.

If you like your bacon, the kind that comes from pigs, you might just have to do without it for a while.

According to Britain's National Pig Association, farmers are having a hard time feeding their herds because of the increasing cost of feeding the animals, and that is causing a significant decline in pig herds.

The association says the trend is occurring around the globe, and if it not staved, will cause an "unavoidable" shortage in 2013.

Here in the United States, for example, the government is starting a pork-buying program in hopes of keeping pig farmers working. In Europe, there's a Save Our Bacon campaign in hopes of forcing supermarkets to pay pig farmers more.

If the shortage does indeed happen, at least that will mean more sales for turkey bacon?
