City Schools of Decatur Media Clerk Passes Away

A fixture of the Decatur schools community passed away last week, leaving behind a strong legacy with City Schools of Decatur.

Marty McKinnon, 64, died on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says. McKinnon had spent 16 years with City Schools of Decatur, including serving at the 4/5 Academy for the last four years.
“He was my librarian when I was younger,” wrote a former student on McKinnion’s online guestbook. “I always looked forward to seeing him in the library. His bright smile and personality will be missed.”

McKinion started his career as a paraprofessional and eventually became a library media clerk, the AJC says.
McKinnon is survived by his wife, Charlene Beard; son, Thomas “Mac” Johnson McKinnon, III; daughter, Marjory Azalee McKinnon; sister, Constance and husband, Jim Hope; brother, David and wife, Lovella McKinnon; daughter-in-law, Pamela Feltman; granddaughter, Aria Skye McKinnon; and many more loving family and friends.
