Prosecutor Named Cobb Juvenile Court Judge

Wayne Grannis has 24 years of experience in Georgia's juvenile court system.

MARIETTA, GA — Senior Assistant District Attorney Wayne E. Grannis has been appointed as a Cobb Juvenile Court judge, Superior Court Chief Judge LaTain Kell announced Tuesday.

The prosecutor will succeed Judge James Whitfield, who retired July 1. He will be sworn in at a ceremony to be scheduled in the near future, according to Superior Court Administrator Tom Charron.

Grannis has 24 years of experience in the juvenile court system. He started as a probation officer and later represented abused and neglected children as a child advocate attorney, according to a court statement. He also served as staff attorney to the chief judge of Fulton Juvenile Court, and was deputy chief ADA in Fulton County before heading the Juvenile unit in the Cobb District Attorney’s Office in 2017.

Grannis, who holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Georgia and earned his law degree at Georgia State University, lives with his wife and children in Powder Springs.

“I am looking forward to further serving the children and families of Cobb County in this new role,” he said.

The four judges of the Cobb Juvenile Court are appointed by the Superior Court. Juvenile Court judges hear dependency and delinquency actions and oversee three accountability courts: truancy court, juvenile drug court and family treatment court.
