Woman Who Got Out Of Vehicle Struck And Killed On Cobb Road

A woman who got out of her vehicle to retrieve some luggage was struck and killed by a car in Powder Springs, police said.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police in Cobb are investigating a fatal automobile accident in which a woman who got out of a vehicle to retrieve some luggage was struck and killed, Patch has learned. The tragic crash happened Sunday morning on C.H. James Parkway east of Oglesby Road in Powder Springs, authorities said.

Detectives said 70-year-old Ronald Chrisman of Powder Springs was behind the wheel of an SUV going eastbound on C.H. James Parkway when a piece of luggage somehow fell out of a rear door and onto the roadway, according to Cobb police. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Chrisman then proceeded to make a turn around into the westbound left turn lane to Oglesby Road and go back up to where the luggage was. His wife, identified as 68-year-old Roymane Chrisman of Powder Springs, got out to get the luggage and was hit by the driver of a black 2002 Ford Mustang, police said.

Mrs. Chrisman was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she was declared dead. The driver of the Mustang, 33-year-old Teddy Wetherby of Dallas, was not hurt in the crash, police said.

"Although darkness was a contributing factor (and speed was not), investigators have not yet
determined if charges will be filed in the case," Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
