Atlanta Student Wins Full-Ride Tom Joyner Scholarship

Zeigler, the recipient, plans to attend Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla., to study biology and biological engineering. He hopes to become a trauma surgeon.

Titus Zeigler, an Atlanta, Ga., student, beat out hundreds of applicants this week to nab the Tom Joyner Foundation® “Full Ride Scholarship,” the foundation announced on its website today. The scholarship covers tuition, on-campus room and board, and books for up to 10 semesters. Zeigler is the fourth Tom Joyner scholar.

Joyner, the foundation’s chairman and founder, also announced Zeigler as the recipient this morning on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” which he hosts. The show airs in 115 markets and reaches more than eight million people a week.  

A student at Henry W. Grady High School in Atlanta, Zeigler is a member of the Junior ROTC program and tutors middle school students. He also has volunteered for the Atlanta Food Bank.

Zeigler was selected because of his focus, drive and determination, Joyner said in a statement on his website. “Titus (Zeigler) is a very impressive young man."
