Erroll Davis to Advise Atlanta School Board on Beltline Debt

Atlanta Board of Education Chair Courtney English has appointed outgoing Superintendent Erroll B. Davis, Jr. an advisor to the the Atlanta Board of Education effective July 7, 2014.

Davis will work with the Board exclusively on the dispute with the City of Atlanta related to a $19 million Beltline payment.

Incoming superintendent Meria Carstarphen is set to take over for Davis, who for his service he will be paid $1.

“Superintendent Davis has done an incredible job stabilizing our school district and putting it on the right track,” said English in a release. “I am confident that he can help us resolve this issue sooner rather than later.”

According to the release, Davis has successfully tackled a number of issues while serving as the Atlanta Public Schools superintendent, including managing the fallout from the CRCT cheating scandal, helping to mitigate the loss of accreditation for APS high schools, and closing schools that had low enrollment numbers.

“We want to be good partners with the City and the Beltline. However, our first priority is the 47,000 students who we serve,” said English. “We look forward to productive conversation with our partners to bring this issue to a close.”
