ATLANTA, GA -- Atlanta police have arrested five people they say were involved in a violent armed robbery of a couple in Midtown on Tuesday night.

Police told WSB-TV that they had been looking for a particular white car that had been spotted at the Tuesday armed robbery and another incident on Wednesday night, and found it at a gas station on Spring Street. The suspects tried to ram a police car and escape, but were unsuccessful.

None of the suspects has been identified yet, WSB-TV says.

The victims in Tuesday’s armed robbery were walking along 8th Street at roughly 8 p.m. when two black men crossed over to their side of the street and boxed them in, according to a police report. When the victims tried to cross the street to escape, the suspects “approached them aggressively with weapons” and demanded their backpack and purse.

The female surrendered her purse, but the male victim refused to hand over his backpack. A struggle ensued that ended when one of the suspects bashed the male victim in the head with a pistol, according to the report. The suspects then fled east on 8th Street.
