'Gun Battle' Damages Buildings, 18 Vehicles in Midtown

Police said rounds from at least four different guns were found at the scene, along with an AK-47 rifle.

Police said between at least 20 vehicles were damaged in what appears to have been a "gun battle" in midtown Atlanta Thursday night.

The battle began around 11:30 p.m. in a bustling area full of bars and restaurants, near the intersection of Crescent Avenue and 12th Street, according to reports from multiple outlets including WSB-TV, News 11-Alive, and the Associated Press.

Captain Cliff Johnson said they believe multiple shooters were involved. They found at least 60 rounds of different calibers from multiple guns were found at the scene, and an AK-47 rifle was found in nearby bushes.

Several buildings were hit by bullets, in addition to the damaged vehicles.

Residents of the Mayfair Renaissance said a bullet entered one of the units through the wall and hit a sprinkler system, flooding the home.

Witnesses reported that bystanders lie on the ground, screaming and hiding behind columns in Colony Square.

No injuries were reported, but the shooters are still at-large, police said.
