The victim was robbed Saturday morning as he walked through Piedmont Park, one of Midtown's most popular attractions.

ATLANTA — A man was ambushed, stabbed and robbed Saturday morning in Midtown's Piedmont Park. According to police, the victim was listening to music and didn't hear a group of people come up shortly after midnight in the park.

“As he walked, he felt a suspect grab him from behind, by the neck, and start choking him,” said police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee. The victim was tackled by the group, who then stabbed him in the back and demanded his wallet and cellphone. The group also demanded his passcode to unlock his phone. When the man refused, the suspects kicked him some more and then fled the scene.

The man then flagged down a passerby, who called police. The victim was taken to Atlanta Medical Center in stable condition.
