Warehouses adjacent to the SweetWater Brewery near Midtown could be converted into loft office space in an effort to enhance and expand the Sweetwater Design District.

WhatNow Atlanta reports that developers Third & Urban have filed plans with the City of Atlanta to transform a 44,745 sq. ft. office space at 120 Ottley Drive NE into offices at a cost of $2.9 million. The redevelopment of the warehouse is part of the first phase of the Armour Yards project, which looks to create 150,000 sq. ft. of loft-style office space featuring collaborative areas, jogging trails, a fitness studio, and more.

All told, Third & Urban looks to convert seven warehouses near I-85 and Piedmont Park with 275,000 sq. ft. of space into offices, with groundbreaking scheduled for this month and completion dates between fall and winter of next year, WhatNow Atlanta says.

Hank Farmer of Third & Urban tells WABE that the concept of turning industrial buildings into “campus-like” loft office space was born in San Francisco and Los Angeles, a concept which Farmer felt would work perfectly in Atlanta.
