Trial Scheduled to Begin in Murder of Atlanta Pastor's Brother
Victim robbed, shot inside Atlanta home last year.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the murder case against five men accused of killing 47-year-old Jerrick Jackson. Jackson is the brother of prominent Metro Atlanta Pastor Wiley Jackson.
Twenty-year-old Geno Lewis, 19-year-old Felton Lovejoy, Demetrius Morgan, Alejandro Pitts and Montravious Bradley, all 18, are each charged with Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity, Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and False Imprisonment in connection with the shooting death of Jackson.
Jackson was gunned down on May 7, 2013 inside his Lowe Street home in Atlanta. As they exited their vehicle upon returning home, Jackson and his fiancée were approached by several armed men. The gunmen ordered the couple inside the home.
After Jackson attempted to stop the men from entering an upstairs room where his fiancée’s daughter was located, Jackson was shot multiple times by the assailants. Jackson died the same evening as a result of the shooting. The suspects fled the scene, taking ATM and credit cards as well as blank checks from both victims. The stolen cards and checks from the armed robbery would later become important in identifying the indicted defendants.
Opening statements are expected to begin Tuesday in courtroom 5F. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville is presiding over the case.
