American Legion Post 65 in Monroe Helps With School Supplies

Students in need in the community were given supplies to help kit them out for the new school year.

When Walton County students returned to the classroom this week, many of them had help with supplies, courtesy of the American Legion Post 64 in Monroe.

As they have done in previous years, the post took in donations and purchased school supplies for students in the community who may have trouble coming up with what was needed for the upcoming school year.

"Supplies were furnished to 352 Students; up from 198 last year," said Elmer Swartzmeyer of the American Legion. "We also had 15 teachers claim leftover supplies."

Swarzmeyer said there was not usually a shortage of supplies, just of people coming forward to apply for them. The new American Legion post in Social Circle did the same for students in the Social Circle City Schools.
