St. Anna's Youth and Knights of Columbus Unite

St. Anna’s Catholic Church Youth Group requested the Knights of Columbus, Council #14425 involvement in the planning and building of a GaGa Pit (Arena Dodge Ball). They accepted the challenge and over a period of six months, committed to the building of the GaGa Pit to include the design architecture, material list, manpower, and the preparation of the grounds needed. A budget was established, and the Knights allowed the Youth Group to run one of its Trivia Nights as a fund raiser, allowing all proceeds to the project. Through advertising and promoting the event to the church parishioners, Trivia Night was successful in raising the funds needed for the project.

A plan of action was established for February’s 2019 installation of the GaGa Pit. Through the efforts of Lowe’s Home Improvement which discounted the cost, offering their services, the GaGa Pit materials were purchased and delivered. On several Saturdays in February, the Knights working alongside the youth group prepared the grounds for the building of the GaGa Pit, to include the final installation.

In early March, till today, the Youth Group has enjoyed the GaGa Pit, setting up tournaments amongst themselves. Immediately, due to the number of the players and the age of the younger youth, another GaGa Pit is under consideration for development. Truly, this project energized the youth participation in this game sport. It provided a safe outlet for the youth group to enjoy each other’s company while getting physical exercise and friendly competition.

Working together the Knights and Youth demonstrated another positive reinforcement of togetherness in support of each other.
