Harlem Globetrotters Opening New Office in Norcross

A ribbon-cutting event, which members of the famous basketball squad will attend, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.

NORCROSS, GA -- The Norcross Globetrotters?

It doesn't quite have that familiar ring, does it? But the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball troupe is setting up shop in Gwinnett County, nonetheless.

The Globetrotters have opened new corporate offices in Norcross. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Monday at the offices, at 5445 Triangle Parkway, Suite 300.

The event will come after the Globetrotters perform twice over the weekend at Phillips Arena. Both the Saturday and Sunday shows start at 1 p.m.

Current player-performers Big Easy Lofton, Scooter Christensen and Moose Weekes are scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon-cutting event.

The Globetrotters are owned by Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation, which bills itself as the largest family-owned themed attractions corporation in the United States.

The 'Trotters are currently celebrating their 90th year. Started as the Savoy Big Five in 1926, the team has toured worldwide in its many incarnations, becoming one of the most recognized franchises in sports.

The new offices aren't the only news the Globetrotters have made lately in metro Atlanta.

Recently, "showman" Buckets Blakes made a basket from a skylift 300 feet in the air at Stone Mountain, tallying what the team calls the highest shot in Globetrotters history.
