Sewage Spill Dumps 4,000 Gallons in Norcross Stream

The spill happened at about 5 p.m. Thursday and was stopped a little after 8 p.m.

NORCROSS, GA — A sewage spill in Norcross on Thursday was caused by a buildup of dumped grease, Gwinnett County environmental officials said.

More than 4,100 gallons of sewage was dumped into a tributary of Bromolow Creek by the spill, which started at a manhole at 3312 Country Club Village Lane in Norcross.

The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources was notified at 5:07 p.m. and the overflow was stopped by 8:10 p.m.

To help mitigate the effects of the spill, crew raked the area and spread lime. Signs letting residents know of the spill were placed in the area and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified.
