A technologically savvy thief robbed a bank using an app on his phone and tried to do it again at another spot, police say.

NORCROSS, GA -- Police in Gwinnett County are asking the public’s help in finding a technologically savvy thief who robbed a bank using an app on his phone and tried to repeat the act at another spot the same day.

The first incident took place Sept. 23 at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 1600 block of Indian Trail Road, police said. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)
Authorities said the man, who was caught on surveillance camera, walked into the branch and showed the teller a message written on his phone’s notes app. The note read, “I have a gun give me your money,” Gwinnett police said in a news release.
The teller gave the man an envelope with $1,000 in it, police said. Then the perpetrator showed up at the First Citizens Bank in the 1700 block of Indian Trail Lilburn Road in an attempt to rob that bank, according to authorities.

Like he did earlier that day, he showed the teller a message on his phone that read, “Give me the money.” But this time, the teller told him that “was not a valid account,” police said. The man then walked out of the bank and fled the scene in possibly a red Toyota Corolla or Camry with dark tinted windows, police said.

He is described as about 6’0” in height, and weighing about 200 pounds and wearing a black and blue checkered long sleeve shirt, pants, black and white shoes.
If anyone has any information about these incidents or recognizes the man, please contact Gwinnett police.
