8,500 DeKalb Water Customers Mailed Shutoff Notices by Mistake

Customers reportedly never received a December bill, but did get the notice that their services would be shut off.

Interim DeKalb County CEO Lee May recently apologized to thousands of residents who incorrectly received notices that their water services would be shut off for not paying their bills.

At least 8,500 DeKalb County customers were not mailed bills in December, according to Reporter Newspapers. The system later flagged the customers for non-payment, even though they were not billed, and sent out notices that the water would be shut off.

“We had a major hiccup. We messed up,” May said at a public meeting at Dunwoody City Hall. “You didn’t get your December bills, but you did get your cutoff notices. Let me just apologize.”
