Decriminalizing Marijuana: Good Idea or Bad?

A DeKalb city is looking into the issue. Take our Patch poll and tell us what you think.

CLARKSTON, GA -- A DeKalb city could vote next month on decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

According to Clarkston Mayor Ted Terry, "America's war on drug has been a failure."

Terry told WABE he wants to make the penalty for holding an ounce or less of marijuana a municipal court fine, instead of the current penalty of a $1,000 fine and up to a year of jail time.

Patch wants to know what you think. Is Terry's idea the right way to go, or should we leave the current penalty as it is? Take our Patch poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
