Emory Plans Vigil for Students Killed in Bangladesh Terror Attack

Abinta Kabir and Faraaz Hossain were among the victims in the Holey Artisan Bakery cafe terror attack.

Atlanta, GA -- A vigil is being planned for Thursday at Emory University for the victims in last week's terror attacks in Bangladesh that left two Emory students dead.

"Abinta Kabir, an Emory University undergraduate student at the Oxford College campus, was among those taken hostage and murdered by terrorists yesterday in the attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh," a statement from Emory said. "Abinta, who is from Miami, Florida, was in Dhaka visiting family and friends."

The university later confirmed said a second student, identified as Faraaz Hossain, a 2016 graduate of Oxford College, was also killed in the attack.

Hossain was from Dhaka and had planned on joining the Goizueta Business School in the fall.

Gunmen took hostages in the Holey Artisan Bakery cafe on Friday before troops stormed the cafe roughly 12 hours later. At least 20 hostages and six militants were killed and another 13 hostages were rescued by authorities. Two police officers were also killed in the attack.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Most killed in the attack were foreigners, including nine Italian nationals. The cafe was popular among foreigners.

The university is offering support to members of the community through counseling services.
