Daniell Principal: Trust Aided Drug Bust

David Nelson says the cocaine possession arrests at the middle school Wednesday are a reminder of society's problems.

administrators learned about student drug possession Wednesday because of the trust the school has earned with the community, Principal David Nelson says.

Nelson used his blog on the school’s website to address Wednesday’s arrest of two students for suspected cocaine possession.

“This incident is an unfortunate reminder to us all that drugs are still a prevalent factor in our society and in our schools,” Nelson wrote in his post Thursday, the last day before a two-week winter break for the . “Please be sure to visit with your children about the serious consequences and effects that drug use has on individuals.”

Nelson said school officials quickly resolved the problem after being informed about the cocaine. He added that the handling of the incident reflected the collaboration within the Northeast Cobb school’s community.

“As I have promised you in the past,” Nelson wrote, “I will always be open and upfront with you about what is occurring at Daniell Middle School.”
