Lassiter Survives in Penalty Kicks

The Trojans beat Milton and will play at North Cobb next week, but Pope lost to Marist.

is the No. 8 boys soccer team in the nation but needed penalty kicks to survive its opening game of the Georgia High School Association AAAAA playoffs at on Tuesday night.

The Trojans and Eagles were tied at 3 after regulation and overtime, according to the scores posted by the GHSA. Lassiter then was a perfect five for five on penalty kicks, while Milton connected on only four of five, giving the Trojans the win.

Lassiter advanced to play at Region 4-AAAAA champion next Tuesday in the second round. The Warriors beat Islands at home, 8-1.

Tuesday's win raised Lassiter's record to 16-2-1 and came as ESPN HS released the latest Powerade Fab 50 national rankings. The Trojans, who , moved up from 10th to eighth in the new poll.

, which beat 7-1 Tuesday, is the only Georgia school ranked higher in the ESPN rankings.

Also Tuesday, the soccer season ended for the boys with a 3-0 loss at in the AAAA playoffs.
