Powder Springs Motorcyclist Killed In Marietta Crash: Police

Rider of blue 2012 Suzuki GSX-R hit Monday afternoon by red 2002 Subaru Forester on Dallas Highway, Cobb police say.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Powder Springs man riding a Suzuki motorcycle was struck and killed Monday afternoon in a collision with the driver of a Subaru Forester, Cobb County police said. The crash happened just after noontime on Dallas Highway at the intersections of Castel Road and Old Hamilton Road in Marietta.

The motorcycle was traveling northbound on Casteel Road while the Suburu was heading westbound on Dallas Highway, Cobb police said. As the motorcycle, which had the light, crossed the westbound on Dallas Highway, it was hit by the westbound Suburu. The rider of the blue 2012 Suzuki GSX-R has been identified as 52-year-old Jeffrey Hinkle, according to Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce. The driver of the red 2002 Subaru Forester is Alfred Onken, 72, of Marietta.

Hinkle was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Onken suffered minor cuts but was not taken to the hospital.

Charges may be forthcoming in the crash, which is being investigated by Cobb's S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) police unit, Pierce said.
