Taylor English Attorney Named To Leadership Role in American Bar Association

ATLANTA, Dec. 11, 2015 – Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce that Michael H. Trotter has been appointed as chairman of the Law Firm Finance Committee of the Law Practice Division of the American Bar Association (ABA.) In addition, Trotter was named to the board of the Knowledge Strategy Interest Group of the Division, and is a member of the Division’s Lawyer Leadership Interest Group.

The Committee oversees the Division’s activities relating to law firm finance covering advice to law practitioners and law firms concerning the financial aspects of practicing law including billing and collection arrangements, financial records and their utilization, firm capitalization, attorney compensation programs, banking relationships, technology utilization, retirement and succession planning. The Committee is also interested in significant innovative proposals to modify traditional law practice finance including non-lawyer investment in law firms, the delivery of legal services by alternative business structures, corporate approaches to law firm operations and ownership, and investor financing of certain types of litigation.

At Taylor English, Trotter practices corporate and finance law and has served as an expert witness relating to law firm management and operations in the bankruptcy of Heller Ehrman, and as an expert advisor to the trustee in the Howrey bankruptcy. He is the author of two books on law firm management, operations and economics. His studies of law firm growth and change have combined the perspectives of a successful practicing attorney, an experienced law firm manager and historian. He is also a frequent columnist, media source and speaker at industry events.

Trotter earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University, where he was elected Phi Betta Kappa. He earned his master’s degree in history from Harvard University and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
