Walton Tops Wheeler in OT; Lassiter Romps

Pope edged Sprayberry in another East Cobb rivalry game Friday.

While Lassiter was rolling over Milton to grab a share of first place on Friday, Walton had to pull off a miracle just to keep pace.

And the Raiders did, against their oldest East Cobb rival. Trailing Wheeler 28-14 in the final three-and-a-half minutes of the game, Walton rallied to tie the game, then claimed it in overtime by a 35-28 score at Raider Valley.

Lassiter had little trouble with Milton in a 31-3 homecoming win. Will Anderson threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Quincy Perdue, for the Trojans.

Walton drove quickly to cut its deficit to a touchdown, then recovered a Wheeler fumble and scored the game-tying touchdown in the final half-minute of play.

In overtime, K.K. Brooks scored the winning touchdown, and the Raiders held Wheeler on the next series.

Walton and Lassiter, both 4-3 overall, are in a three-way tie for top spot in Region 5-AAAAAA after Cherokee upset previously unbeaten Etowah, which is 6-1 and 2-1 in region games.

Wheeler (2-5, 0-4) remains at the bottom of the region.

In another big East Cobb rivalry game, Sprayberry overcame an 11-point deficit at home against Pope but couldn't pull out the win.

Mason Shiflett's 74-yard touchdown catch and run late in the fourth quarter pushed the Greyhounds over the top to stay in a 21-17 game.

Pope (3-4, 2-0) is tied for first in Region 7-AAAAA subregion B with Kell, which was off this week. Sprayberry falls to 1-6 and 0-2.

The Walker School trailed 27-0 at halftime in a 41-27 loss to King's Ridge Christian. The Wolverines are 4-3 and 2-2 in Region 6-A subregion B.
