The accident occurred around 11:44 a.m. Sept. 25 when the two vehicles collided along I-285 eastbound at the GA-400 northbound bridge, Sandy Springs police said.

Both vehicles ”drove off the 285 eastbound bridge and landed onto GA-400 northbound,” the agency added.

The three motorists were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. All lanes of I-285 and S.R. 400 have reopened, said Sgt. Ron Momon with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

The tractor trailer and the 8,000-gallon fuel tanker involved in the crash will remain on the side of S.R. 400 until later Friday evening following rush hour traffic, Momon added.

These vehicles, he added, will not hinder vehicular traffic. “It was also determined that there was not a fuel leak from the tanker,” he added. “There was a small amount of fuel that spilled from the cab of the tanker.”

While all haves have reopened, traffic is expected to remain heavy. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.
