Christmas Forecast in Atlanta Area: Naughty or Nice Weather?

Snow on Christmas? We'll take the gift of pleasant temperatures, instead. Part of the region may need an umbrella under the tree, though.

ATLANTA, GA — Santa won't quite need to break out the Bermuda shorts and a tank top, but Atlanta will be seeing warmer than normal weather on Christmas Day.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high near 63 degrees on Sunday, with a 20 percent chance of some showers.

In fact, most all of Georgia is expected to see highs in the 60s on Christmas, with some south Georgia towns expected to flirt with 70.

Christmas Eve won't be quite as warm around Atlanta and may turn out to be wet.

The NWS is forecasting a high of 58 Saturday, with a 30 percent chance of rain. That rain chance continues into Saturday night, when the low should be around 49 degrees.

Here's a look at the National Weather Service forecast for the Atlanta area between now and Christmas Day:

  • Wednesday: Patchy dense fog before 10 a.m. Areas of freezing fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 58. Low Wednesday night around 46.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Partly cloudy Thursday night, with a low around 38.
  • Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 53. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Lows around 42 Friday night, with a 20 percent chance of rain.
  • Saturday: Cloudy, with a high near 58 and a 30 percent chance of rain. Rain chance continues into Saturday night, when the Christmas Eve low will be around 49.
  • Sunday: A warm Christmas, with a high near 63 and 20 percent chance of showers. Low Sunday night only dipping down to about 53.
