Gwinnett Fire Crews Work Multiple Incidents
Wednesday was busy with incidents reported in Peachtree Corners, Buford, Norcross, Lilburn, Lawrenceville, Duluth and Snellville.

Wednesday afternoon and evening were busy times for Gwinnett County firefighters, who responded to the following incidents, according to a news release:
STRIP MALL FIRE/DULUTH
Gwinnett County Firefighters responded at 4:48 p.m., to a report of a fire at a strip shopping center under construction in the 3940 block of Buford Highway, NW at North Berkeley Lake Road in Duluth. The caller reported flames visible. The situation was brought under control by 4:59p.m. Crews arrived to find light smoke showing from the building and the sprinkler activated. Further recon by initial firefighters revealed a small fire in an unoccupied store suite that was already out on arrival.The fire was extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system with no further extension. The fire caused minimal damage and sent smoke throughout the suite.The suite was vacant at the time and no contents were involved. The fire appears accidental and was sparked by a floor compound during construction work. There were no injuries reported and no damage to the structure.

HAZMAT INCIDENT/SNELLVILLE
Firefighters responded at 2:17 p.m., to a report of a hazmat incident at the Verizon Wireless Store, located in the 1937 block of Scenic Highway, SW in Snellville. The caller reported an unknown odor within the business. Crews found the building evacuated on arrival. Further recon by hazmat personnel with meters revealed an odor emanating from the HVAC system. Per the business, there was work done earlier on the HVAC. The unit was shut-down and the staff was instructed to contact maintenance to check the unit and make repairs. There were no injuries reported.

ENTRAPMENT ACCIDENT/LILBURN
Firefighters responded at 5:29 p.m., to a report of an entrapment motor vehicle accident in the 4100 block of Five Forks Trickum Road, SW near Killian Hill Road in Lilburn. Crews found a single-vehicle off the roadway down an embankment. There was an adult female trapped in the overturned vehicle. Firefighters immediately began to stabilize the vehicle and make patient access. The woman was transported (emergency status) to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with a serious injury. The scene was turned over to Gwinnett Police.
INJURY ACCIDENT/NORCROSS
Firefighters responded at 5:41p.m., to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 2211 block of Beaver Ruin Road, NW in Norcross. Crews found a single-vehicle that left the roadway and struck a fence near the Georgia Department of Labor. Crews found an adult male patient and began medical assessment and treatment. The man was transported (routine status) to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with non-life threatening injuries. The scene was turned over to Norcross Police.
MINOR APARTMENT FIRE/LAWRENCEVILLE
Firefighters responded at 6:35 p.m., to an occupant report of an apartment fire in the 3400 block of Fairway Oaks Drive, NW in Lawrenceville.Crews found light smoke showing from a multi-story apartment building on arrival. Firefighters made immediate entry and found a stove fire in the kitchen of a single apartment unit. The fire was contained to the area of origin and sent smoke throughout the apartment. Paramedics assessed an adult occupant who sustained a slight injury.The woman was attempting to douse the fire with water when the injury occurred. A first-arriving police officer used two portable fire extinguishers to contain the fire until the fire department arrived. Three adults and three children were displaced from the affected apartment due to the damage. All other residents were able to return to their apartments once the situation was brought under control. There were no other injuries reported. The fire appears accidental/cooking related and was sparked by a pan of hot grease on the stovetop. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
MINOR APARTMENT FIRE/BUFORD
Firefighters responded at 7:01 p.m., to an occupant report of an apartment fire in the 2700 block of Mall of Georgia Boulevard, NE in Buford. Crews found a stove fire in the kitchen that was already out on arrival. The fire was doused by the occupant prior to the fire department’s arrival. The fire was contained to the stovetop with only slight extension to the cabinets. There was smoke throughout the apartment. The fire appears accidental/cooking related and was sparked by a hot pan of grease on the stovetop. There were no injuries reported. The scene was turned over to maintenance personnel for the complex. The occupants did not request Red Cross assistance. All other residents of the building were allowed to return to their apartments once the situation was brought under control.
GRASS/WOODS FIRE/PEACHTREE CORNERS
Firefighters responded at 7:46p .m., to a resident report of a bush on fire close to an apartment building in the 600 block of Noble Forest Drive, NW in Peachtree Corners. A bystander doused the fire with a portable extinguisher prior to the fire department’s arrival. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There was no extension to the apartment building and no injuries were reported.
