No Election: Challenger Withdraws; Mayor, Council Posts Unopposed

There will be no city election in Peachtree Corners this fall, after a challenger to one of the council seats announced he was withdrawing.

Citing personal reasons, David Abercrombie, who had qualified to oppose the Post 3 seat held by Alex Wright, announced his decision earlier this week, the city said Wednesday.

He had originally announced his candidacy on Sept. 2 during qualifying week.

That means Wright, Mayor Mike Mason, and council members Phil Sadd (Post 1) and Lorri Christopher (Post 5) are all unopposed. No one had previously qualified to run against Mason, Sadd or Christopher.

As a result, there will be no municipal election in Peachtree Corners in November.

In the 2014 elections, councilmembers Jay Lowe (Post 2), Jeanne Aulbach (Post 4), and Weare Gratwick (Post 6), ran unopposed.

In the new city’s first elections held in 2012, 19 men and women qualified for the city’s six city council seats. The mayor ran unopposed.

The mayor and council are elected to four-year terms.

The next municipal election will be held in 2017.
