Local resident John Hester receives "Legend in Energy" award.

John Hester, Peachtree Corners resident and Time Warner's executive director of global building services, has been named an Association of Energy Engineers 2017 “Legend in Energy.” The Legend in Energy award is bestowed on AEE members meeting specific criteria, including length of service in the industry, professional certification and formal recognition of their work.

Hester has a three-decade career in engineering. He has worked at Time Warner and one if its divisions, Turner, for a combined 24 years. Prior to that, he was a senior mechanical engineer for Boeing.

In addition to receiving the "Legend in Energy" award, Hester was the 2009 recipient of AEE’s prestigious “International Energy Manager of the Year” award, which is presented to certified professional engineer for outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles and procedures of energy engineering and for superior service to the association. He also received the 1997 ASHRAE “Engineer of the Year” award from the organization’s Atlanta chapter for his outstanding contributions to the profession.

In his last 20 years, Hester has helped Time Warner and Turner achieve significant cost savings by becoming more energy efficient, primarily by taking advantage of new technologies and boosting operational efficiencies.

"We're trying to save the company an additional $1 million a year, every year, from energy savings," he said. "Researching the many options available to make Time Warner more efficient from an energy standpoint, then selecting and managing daily the options that are right for us, continues to result in significant savings for us."

To date, Hester and his Time Warner Energy Council are collectively responsible for nearly $6 million in savings since the council's inception in 2012.
