Police Investigate 3rd Pedestrian Fatality in 3 Weeks

The latest happened Monday on Boggs Road near I-85; all three cases involved hit-and-run drivers, Gwinnett Police say.

Gwinnett Police are investigating the third hit-and-run pedestrian death in less than three weeks.

The latest incident happened Monday, Oct. 26, around 9:45 p.m. on Boggs Road, near Interstate 85 in unincorporated Duluth, where Dante Wilson, 22, of Lawrenceville, was struck by three vehicles and killed while crossing the road from the Autumn Vista apartment complex to the Magnolia Pointe apartment complex.

Police said two of the three vehicles stopped at the scene. The third, a maroon Honda, fled without stopping to render aid or call 911.

The preliminary investigation revealed (from GCPD news release):

Dante Wilson (age 22, Lawrenceville) was attempting to cross Boggs Road from the Autumn Vista Apartment Complex (1500 Boggs Road) to the Magnolia Pointe Apartment Complex (1475 Boggs Road).

The driver of a maroon Honda was traveling on Boggs Road in the left lane toward I-85.

The driver of a black Buick and silver Mercedes were traveling in the same direction. The black Buick was in the right lane, and the silver Mercedes was behind the red vehicle in the left lane.

The driver of the maroon Honda struck the pedestrian with the passenger side mirror. The driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid or call 911. The driver of the black Buick struck the pedestrian as he was lying in the roadway. And, the driver of the silver Mercedes then struck the pedestrian in the roadway as well.

Both drivers of the black Buick and silver Mercedes stopped at the scene of the accident. They were interviewed by investigators, and their vehicles were towed to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for processing.

Police are actively looking for the maroon Honda.

The accident was the third pedestrian fatality involving a hit-and-run vehicle since Oct. 6.

Amber Harding of Tucker was killed on Oct. 6 as she crossed the road near South Norcross Tucker and Graves roads. Hakeem Dure Temple of Lilburn was charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the accident.

On Oct. 22, Sambi Velasquez was struck and killed while crossing the road in the 6000 block of South Norcross Tucker. Manuel Realejeno, who ran from the scene, was arrested and also charged with vehicular homicide.
