“Words cannot describe how excited I am to be a part of the @Angels organization!!! Can’t wait to go play some ball!”

Jones was one of three Gwinnett County players selected in the first two rounds Monday: Nick Neidert of Peachtree Ridge and former Providence Christian player Christin Stewart were also selected, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

Jones, a former football standout at Wesleyan, set a county record with 40 stolen bases in a season and batted .464 this past season, the Post said.

MLB.com described him this way:

“At the plate, Jones’ quick hands and smooth swing help him make a lot of contact. His swing is geared toward hitting line drives, and he sprays them to all fields.”

Jones has a commitment to play college baseball at North Carolina.

The Orange County Register reported draft picks must be signed by July 17 and $879,500 is the suggested slot value for the 70th pick.
