Roswell Celebrates First Low-Income Senior Living Community

ROSWELL, GA — The city of Roswell, The Integral Group, LLC, Schmit & Associates and the Roswell Housing Authority cut the ribbon on Roswell’s first low-income independent senior living space, The Veranda at Groveway.

The ribbon cutting for the 101-unit facility was held May 2. The development is the first phase under a community revitalization plan created by the residents and stakeholders of the Groveway community.

The Veranda at Groveway is an active senior living community offering one and two bedroom apartments for seniors 62 and older. It is located near Roswell’s town center, and is close in proximity to retail, employment, government and entertainment centers, as well as parks and nature centers.

Groveway Community Group, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has been a voice in the Roswell community since 1943. The group is considered the oldest non-profit organization in Roswell. The Groveway project has been a community driven effort with multiple meetings for citizen input.

Roswell held a charrette with citizens, community meetings, and Groveway Stakeholder committee meetings following the charrette. The Veranda is a result of the collaboration of the city, Groveway’s stakeholders and the residents during these efforts.

“I am so excited that our Housing Authority is stepping out into this new environment,” said Mayor Lori Henry. “It’s exactly what we need in the city of Roswell. We need to embrace our community and be inclusive of all residents and I think this is a step in that right direction.”

Construction of the building began in August 2016 and was managed by Schmit & Associates. Residents began moving to the community in October 2017.

City grants supported the development by committing $100,000 in HOME Investment Partnership funds and $177,587 in Community Development Block Grant funds to the Roswell Housing Authority. In total, Roswell contributed approximately $966,641 to the project, making it possible for waterline, sidewalk, roadway and other infrastructure improvements.
