SAVANNAH, GA — Savannah store shelves were being hit hard Friday by shoppers prepping for Hurricane Irma. The storm is expected to reach Georgia, likely as a weakened tropical depression, early next week.

Although Irma is still south of Florida, it's official: Georgia and much of Savannah are already being impacted. The Savannah region is under a mandatory evacuation order starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, although highways to the west are already full of vehicles leaving the coast.
