Hurricane Irma: Savannah-Chatham Schools Announce Closures
"Together we will be ready to get our school system and community back to full operation," Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett said.

SAVANNAH, GA — News of Hurricane Irma's steady churn towards Georgia has schools systems closing their doors and canceling classes to prepare for the severe weather that will blow through the state. Savannah-Chatham public schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, officials say.
"It is our hope that you have taken the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of your loved ones," Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett said. "While we cannot predict how quickly we will resume school operations, we're hopeful that the damages will be limited."
Levett said after the storm passes, officials will access all buildings and community conditions. If there is a need for extended school closures or any change to the schedule, parents and staff will be notified by phone and email. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts.
