Highlights from Budget Week
This week the House and Senate held joint Appropriations Committee hearings on this year's budget. As Ways & Means Chair, I sit on Appropriations as an Ex Officio member.
Here are a few highlights of the AFY 19 / FY 20 Budget:

- $3,000 permanent salary increase for teachers, the largest teacher pay raise in Georgia history.
- A 2% merit increase for all state employees.
- $500,000 initial investment in a GBI gang task force.
- $69 million providing school safety funds for every public school in the state.
The proposed FY 2020 budget totals $27.5 billion.
Georgia ranks 2nd best in transportation infrastructure.

Congrats to Georgia DOT and members of the House Transportation Committee for leading efforts resulting in Georgia's recognition as having the 2nd best transportation infrastructure in the nation.
