Planning Commission Gives Nod to Mixed-Residential Development

361-unit development adjacent to Eastside Medical Center moves on to Council for public hearing and vote.

The city Planning Commission voted to recommend two measures Tuesday that makes way for a 361 mixed-residential unit development to be built on a tract of land adjacent to Eastside Medical Center.

The first measure – approved by a vote of 3-2 with one abstention - recommends the Mayor and Council amend the land use plan to from its current designation of Public/Civic to Multifamily Residential. This approval paved the way for the second action on the Zoning Map Amendment.

The second vote – approved by a vote of 4-1 with one abstention - amends the Official Zoning Map from the R-HOP 62-CC (Residential Housing for Older Persons/Continuous Care) to RM (General Residence) which allows for three different residential housing types. However, the approval came with more than a dozen conditions and several variances, including the stipulation that all multi-family dwellings be occupied by those aged 55 and older.

The scheduled for a first reading by the Mayor and Council on Oct. 13 with a public hearing and vote to approve or deny the recommendation on Oct 27.
