SNELLVILLE, GA — Solange Destang is Snellville's newest city council member after she defeated Brittany Marmol Tuesday in a runoff election for Post 2. Destang, a South Gwinnett High School teacher, won the contest 557 - 401.

The runoff election was required after none of the four candidates on the Nov. 5 general election ballot garnered more than 50 percent of the vote. Destang received 567 votes in the general election, while Marmol received 496 votes. Wanda Blow and Thomas Mwambay tallied 90 and 39 votes respectively.

Destang replaces Marmol’s husband, Roger, who decided not to run for re-election. Destang will be sworn into office at the Dec. 9 council meeting.
