U.S. Soldier From Georgia Killed In Syria
The 22-year-old infantryman was on his first deployment.

The U.S. soldier killed in Syria on Friday was identified as SPC Etienne J. Murphy, 22, of Snellville, Georgia, the Department of Defense said Saturday.
Murphy was supporting the combined joint task force Operation Inherent Resolve and was on his first deployment. The 22-year-old was killed in a non-tactical vehicle roll over in Syria.
Born in Boston, Murphy enlisted in the Army in June 2013. He was an infantryman assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.

Murphy received several awards and decorations, including the Parachutist Badge, Army Achievement Medal with 3 OLC, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.
He was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

The Pentagon said the vehicle roll over is under investigation.
