Work Completed on Lenora Park Playground

The playground at the Snellville park has new equipment, with more renovations to come to the rest of the park.

SNELLVILLE, GA -- Work renovating the playground near the Lenora Park baseball complex has been completed, county officials announced Wednesday.

The work was done using funds from Gwinnett County's 2009 special-purpose local option sales tax.

"This playground is a great amenity for the entire community and gives young children a place to play while their older siblings play ball," District 3 Commissioner Tommy Hunter said in a news release.

New curb and fencing is in place, along with new equipment including four swings, two spinners and a large rocking fire truck.

The playground also has a new modular structure with slides, climbers, bridges and shade canopies with a "drop zone" feature that lets children ride to the ground from the structure like an elevator.

"Playgrounds are a place where children can learn motor skills and develop social skills all at the same time," said Gwinnett Parks and Recreation director Tina Fleming. "Play is an important part of children’s lives and fits right in with one of our Live Healthy Gwinnett goals to encourage people to be active."

Aside from the playground renovations, Lenora Park is undergoing other SPLOST-funded improvements.

Currently, crews are replacing the concession building and dugout roofs and an upcoming project will replace the roof on the park's pavilion.
