Flood Watch Issued for North Georgia Beginning Saturday

Up to 3.5 inches of rain is possible for an area that includes Gwinnett.

Get ready to get wet in Suwanee and Gwinnett this weekend.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a flood watch for Gwinnett and other portions of North Georgia, beginning Saturday (May 4) and running through Sunday evening.

The bulletin reads in part:

PERIODS OF RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA TONIGHT AND BECOME WIDESPREAD OVER THE STATE SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2.5 TO 3.5 INCHES WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHWEST GEORGIA.

...  LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE IF THE HEAVY RAIN REPEATEDLY MOVES OVER THE SAME AREA. ALSO...STORM DRAINS...DITCHES...AND LOW LYING AREAS MAY BECOME QUICKLY CLOGGED WITH DEBRIS AND CAUSE EXTENSIVE STREET FLOODING
