Hit Construction Worker Dies, Driver Charges Pending: Police

The construction worker who was hit by a car and seriously injured on Friday while working on I-85 N, died on Saturday.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — The construction worker who was hit by a car and seriously injured Friday, died on Saturday. The police says charges are pending against the driver who struck him while he was working on I-85 N near the I-985 N split, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The construction worker, now identified as Lamar Ragland, 42, was wearing a reflective jacket and helmet as he removed barrels from the end of the closure, preparing it to be reopened. He was originally transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries.

The driver, Peter Rozboril, entered the lane closure with the intent to exit onto I-985 N and struck the worker. He was driving a maroon Toyota Corolla on I-85 N. The driver remained at the scene and spoke with investigators.

Charges against Rozboril will be forthcoming, according to police. These charges will mostly likely include homicide by vehicle and traffic charges.
