Local Church Leader - M Andrew Galt Called as New Area Authority
Announced During General Conference Broadcast of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2020 from Salt Lake City
Retired Suwanee resident, M. Andrew Galt, was called to be an Area Authority Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Apr. 4, 2020. The announcement was made during the 180th Worldwide General Conference Broadcast from the Church’s Headquarter in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“I am happy to serve the Church in this new calling,” Galt said. “I will assist in regulating the affairs of the Church and to testify of our Savior Jesus Christ and His divine purpose.”
Prior to this volunteer Church service assignment, Galt served as a stake president for the Sugar Hill area and bishop of the Suwanee congregation since 2009.

Galt’s current assignment will oversee the entire state of Georgia for the Church of Jesus Christ. There are 87,000 members of the church in 164 congregations throughout the state.
With a degree in business marketing from Weber State University, Galt worked as an international business executive for IT services. He retired in March 2019. He is married to Karen Scott Galt, and they have five daughters and 18 grandchildren.

The Church locally have several programs and services they offer for free to the community:
- Bishops’ Storehouse that provides food for the needy and partners with several food pantries throughout Georgia.
- Helping Hands program that sends thousands of volunteers throughout the Southeast to provide natural disaster relief.
- A legal clinic in Chamblee, associated with Emory University School of Law, providing free legal advice to immigrants through volunteer attorneys.
- Forty-four family history centers offer free genealogy assistance.
- JustServe.org is a free online service that helps organizations and communities build unity through service opportunities.
