Memorial Day 'Go Silent' Campaign to Honor Fallen Veterans Online
The website lets people pledge to go silent for a minute starting at 12:01 p.m. on May 27, 2013.

There will be plenty of Memorial Day tributes in Gwinnett and across the United States in 2013, but there is an online tribute that is gaining notice.
The Los Angeles Times and other media outlets have reported that a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy group called Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has a page on its website for its Memorial Day "Go Silent" campaign. (Also, see the attached screenshot.)
Visitors to the site can pledge online to go silent for a minute starting at 12:01 p.m. on May 27. The online page allows you to name a fallen veteran in whose honor you are going silent.

Comments by those taking the pledge and the names of the people they are remembering will flash across the screen continuously above a photograph of combat boots.
The advocacy group is also among those who are urging the Department of Veterans Affairs to work harder to overcome the backlog of veterans' claims that have some waiting more than a year for benefits.

The campaign also carries the Twitter hashtag #gosilent.
