New Gymnasium Coming to Suwanee

SUWANEE, GA -- A new gymnasium with a full-size basketball court and elevated indoor track is coming to George Pierce Park in Suwanee.

Gwinnett County commissioners on Tuesday approved a $3.2 million construction contract with Headley Construction Company to build the gym at the park, located at 55 Buford Pkwy.

It will be built using funds from Gwinnett’s special-purpose local-option sales tax.

The 18,211 square-foot facility will be in addition to the recreation center already at the park.

“This project is a great use of the voter-approved SPLOST and supports the recreational needs of our community, particularly seniors who are looking forward to using the elevated indoor walking track,” board Chair Charlotte Nash said in a news release.

The basketball court will have overlays for volleyball and badminton. The track will be the county’s second indoor track. The first is located at Lucky Shoals Park in Norcross.

The 304-acre George Pierce Park already features a football field, five soccer fields, nine baseball/softball fields and more than three miles of trails.
