Suwanee OKs Process to Restrict On-Street Parking
Residents would have to have enough signatures to request a public hearing.

It's official. The City of Suwanee now has a policy through which residents can ask to have on-street parking restricted.
City Council members unanimously approved Tuesday (Nov. 19) a process that allows residents to apply for a change through a public hearing. City Council members would have the final decision.
According to the process, a community could petition the city for a public hearing to change the situation on a particular street. At least 70 percent of the affected owners on a street would be required to sign the petition for a hearing.
And an affected homeowners association also would have to give its support for a proposal to be considered.
Planning Director Josh Campbell, who was the point person behind the new policy, noted Tuesday that he has "heard from multiple neighborhoods" in his 13 years at City Hall about on-street parking problems. But he said no one neighborhood drove the decision.
Two residents spoke during Tuesday's meeting in support of the policy, but both felt the 70 percent standard was too high.
Former Suwanee Mayor Chris Yoder, a Village Grove resident, and Barbara Allen, a Suwanee Station resident, both said on-street parking is a problem in their areas.
