Suwanee Semifinal Showdown in Playoffs? Well ...

Collins Hill and North Gwinnett first have quarterfinal games Friday.

Collins Hill and North Gwinnett resume their football routines with playoff games Friday night (Nov. 29).

And though they will be facing McEachern and Hillgrove, respectively, the possibility beckons: Will the Suwanee teams meet in the semifinals a week from now?

According to predictions, yes. Georgia High School Football Daily recently forecast the host Eagles to beat McEachern (No. 3 seed from Region 4) by 16 points. The publication also predicted that North Gwinnett will beat host Hillgrove (No. 2 seed from Region 4) by nine points.

Should both of those predictions work out, Collins Hill would host North Gwinnett on Dec. 6 for a berth in the state 6A title game.

As for Friday's quarterfinal games:

  • North Gwinnett is in its sixth quarterfinal since 2006, when Coach Bob Sphire arrived, according to ghsfdaily.com That is the most among AAAAAA schools in that time. North is 1-4 in previous games.
  • Collins Hill has the leading passer and rusher among teams left in the AAAAAA playoffs, ghsfdaily reported. QB Tyler Herman unofficially is 193 of 301 passing for 2,765 yards and 32 touchdowns. RB Tyler Henderson has rushed for 1,554 yards and 25 touchdowns.
