Suwanee Star Singer, 11, Tells Of Near-Death Experience

Angelica Hale sang on "America's Got Talent" Monday night, but she spoke about a more serious topic on "NBC Nightly News."

SUWANEE, GA — Angelica Hale, the 11-year-old girl from Suwanee with the great big voice, sang Monday night on "America's Got Talent: The Champions." But that was not her only appearance on national television. Earlier in the evening, she appeared on "NBC Nightly News" to talk about her battle with a deadly illness.

When she was four, Angelica came down with double pneumonia and sepsis and nearly died, according to the news program.

"I went through multiple organ failure," she said. "I think the worst part for me was not knowing if I was going to make it or not."

Music helped her to escape, she said, and her family helped her pull through. Her mom, Eva, donated one of her kidneys to Angelica.

The 90-second piece on NBC Nightly News also shows Angelica on stage in "America's Got Talent," singing “Fight Song,” the inspirational tune from Rachel Platten.
