With the support of the City of Tucker, the Tucker-Northlake CID and numerous elected officials, Ben F. Kushner Co. has officially broken ground on Tucker Meridian, the first major retail development announced in the Tucker-Northlake area since the incorporation of Tucker as a city (www.bfkco.com/portfolio-view/tucker-meridian). Among the dignitaries in attendance at the event Oct. 5 were DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May, Tucker Mayor Frank Auman, City Councilman and Tucker-Northlake CID Board Chairman Bill Rosenfeld, Project Developer Ben Kushner and Tucker-Northlake CID President Ann Rosenthal. The 22-acre, 207,000-square-foot development is located at 2175 Northlake Parkway, Tucker, Ga., 30084, near Lavista Road and both the Northlake Parkway and Lavista Road I-285 interchanges.
“There has been strong interest in this new retail center, and we have a number of tenants already confirmed,” said Ben Kushner, CEO of Ben F. Kushner Co. “The center will be anchored by the ‘healthy living for less’ grocer, Sprouts Farmers Market, opening its first store in Tucker. Additional tenants include DICK’S Sporting Goods, Einstein Bagels, Caribou Coffee, Jimmy John’s and Newk’s Eatery, among others. My team, particularly Calvin Stephenson and Jacob Lang have done an excellent job of showcasing Tucker Meridian’s superior location just inside the perimeter with easy access to I-285 and I-85, Buckhead, Midtown and the Emory area, along with close proximity to desirable neighborhoods in Northlake, Tucker and Decatur. We appreciate DeKalb County working with us to make Tucker Meridian a reality.”

“Tucker Meridian is exactly the kind of real estate development we want to attract to our city,” said Tucker Mayor Frank Auman. “It has a well-planned, attractive design and is already bringing in the kind of high-end retailers, restaurants and specialty shops our residents want. I think it will serve as a catalyst for continued redevelopment of the Tucker-Northlake area, and we owe Ben Kushner a debt of gratitude for his willingness to be among the first major developers in the new City of Tucker.”
“The Tucker-Northlake CID completed a Master Plan last year, reflecting the input from hundreds of stakeholders, said Tucker-Northlake CID Board Chairman Bill Rosenfeld. “This ‘road map’ for development specifically calls for new retail and dining options along the Lavista Road/Northlake Parkway retail corridor near Northlake Mall. Tucker Meridian is the first of what we hope will be many new developments identified in our Master Plan.”

“The development of Tucker-Meridian is a great story for our county,” said DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May. “Here in Tucker, people work collaboratively, building partnerships between businesses, volunteer organizations and government agencies. I want to thank Ben Kushner for having the vision to bring this exciting new project to Tucker and I look forward to returning in the spring with everyone here today to help cut the ribbon at the Grand Opening.”
