Former Tucker High Student Gets 30 Years in Mother's Death

A former Tucker High School student has pleaded guilty to killing her mother and was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison.

Tazmiyah Whitehead, 19, of Conyers, had been charged, along with her twin sister Jasmiyah, in the brutal death of their mother, 34-year-old Nikki Whitehead. Her beaten and stabbed body was found at her home on Jan. 13, 2010.

Initially the twins denied any involvement in the killing, according to Rockdale County District Attorney Richard Reed, but confessed in recent weeks.

"They transfered to Tucker High shortly after the death of their mother," a source with a son at the school told Patch on condition of anonymity. "And my son said they would tell the other students that they killed their mother. Also heard the one twin did the killing, but her sister did nothing to stop it."

The twins are being tried separately. Jasmiyah Whitehead's trial will begin in March, according to Fox 5.

"My son did say something was off about them," the Tucker High source said.
