At Shallowford Presbyterian Church, knitters, and those who crochet, create shawls with a purpose. The shawl maker prays for the recipient with every stitch and gives the shawl a final blessing that it might provide God’s love and comfort to the recipient. Since the group began meeting at Shallowford in 2007, the knitters have made and given nearly 1200 prayer shawls.

“I lead the Prayer Shawl Ministry because I was first a prayer shawl recipient,” said Denise Webber. “I know how deeply my heart was touched by this selfless gift from someone else.”
This year, volunteers have already given 120 shawls and they invite anyone and everyone to learn the skill and continue the practice with them or on their own.

Rev. Christopher Henry says, “The prayer shawl ministry shares the prayers, love and concern of our church community in a powerfully tangible way.”
